A centrifugal (radial) fan moves air perpendicular to the impeller's axis, which lets it build far more static pressure than an axial fan of the same size — the right choice whenever air has to travel through ducting, a filter, or a tight enclosure rather than blow straight through open space.

What to check when specifying centrifugal fans

AC vs DC operation and supply voltage Confirm whether the application needs mains AC (115 V and 230 V units are common in this catalogue) or a DC-powered fan (6 V–48 V DC units are common for panel and equipment cooling). Getting this wrong is the single most common reason a fan order comes back.

Air flow and static pressure, read together A fan's rated air flow (m³/h, m³/min or CFM) only holds at zero back-pressure. If the air has to pass through a filter, a duct run, or an enclosure, check the fan's static pressure rating (Pa) against your system's actual resistance — not just the headline flow figure.

Blower type This catalogue distinguishes true centrifugal fans, tangential (cross-flow) fans, and blowers. Tangential units give a long, even airflow strip — useful in space heaters and thin enclosures — where centrifugal units concentrate flow through a single outlet.

IP rating and noise level Specify these against where the fan actually sits: an occupied space calls for a documented noise-level figure, and any exposure to dust, moisture or washdown calls for an appropriate IP rating.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a centrifugal fan and an axial fan? An axial fan pushes air in a straight line through its blades, like a household fan. A centrifugal fan pulls air in along its axis and throws it out at 90° through a scroll housing, which builds much higher static pressure — the reason centrifugal fans get specified wherever air has to move through ducting, filters, or a restrictive enclosure rather than open space.

How do I size a centrifugal fan for an enclosure? Start from the heat load you need to remove and the enclosure's allowed temperature rise to get a required air-flow figure, then check that figure against the fan's air-flow curve at the static pressure your enclosure and any filters actually present — not the fan's unrestricted, zero-pressure rating.

What IP rating do I need? Ordinary indoor panel cooling can often run without a rating. Outdoor, washdown, or dusty environments call for IP54 or higher — check the specific requirement against site conditions before ordering.

Can AC and DC fans be swapped for one another? No — supply voltage and current type are fixed by the motor design. Include your available supply (for example, 24 V DC control voltage vs. 230 V AC mains) in your RFQ so the correct current type gets matched.
