Contactor Overload Relays — Buying Guide

FLC motor rating vs contact current rating The FLC rating sets the current range the thermal overload trips within, and must be selected — or dialled in, on adjustable units — to match the protected motor's nameplate full-load current, not oversized "to be safe," which defeats the protection.
Pole configuration This catalogue lists both 3-pole and 4-pole units; pole count must match the motor's phase configuration and the contactor it pairs with.
Normal state configuration A relay's contact configuration (for example 1NC, 3NO) describes which contacts are open or closed when de-energised — check this against what your control circuit or PLC program expects for run and fault signalling.

How do I match an overload relay to a motor?
